Tutorial: Open Braid Stitch Using A Long Knitting Loom!

Hello Loomers!

If you are among the lucky ones who are still enjoying the Summer holidays, have you remembered to fit your knitting looms and yarn in your suitcase?

If yes, I have something really nice for you. The Open Braid stitch. This stitch looks a bit difficult but after the third or fourth row you will see for yourself that it's pretty easy to do.

I have loom knitted an envelope bag using the open braid stitch, but you can also loom knit a shrug, a cover pillow using a lining in a contrast colour, a baby blanket and whatever you like!

Here is my bag!

Get your knitting looms, choose your favourite yarn and let's learn loom knitting the new stitch!
Below are the steps for one row.

First we start by casting on using the anchor yarn.
Then we follow the steps indicated above. We start knitting from peg A1 (blue yarn) to peg B4 and we wrap every other peg on both rows of pegs except for B10, B11 and B12 that they would be wrapped consecutive. We turn back with the red yarn wrapping the rest pegs and we also wrap consecutive B3, B2 and B1. We secure our yarn to the external peg and we hook over so every peg has one loop.

This is the Open Braid Stitch !

I look forward to seeing photos of your projects!

Bye, bye...

Photos & Samples Of Stockinette Stitch In A Long Knitting Loom !

Hello my Knit-Loom friends!

I hope you are doing well and have some free time for relaxation and loom knitting!
Although for me these two words have the same meaning!

A couple of days ago I took some pictures of the stockinette stitch so that you can see how the stitch looks like.

I used a medium worsted acrylic yarn, a yarn that is very cheap and affordable and you can find it anywhere and at any colour you wish.

Here you can see how the stockinette stitch looks like. I used 14 pegs of the knitting loom and an acrylic yarn. I removed the stitches of the loom and then I have to bind off the anchor yarn.

Now I' m loom knitting the stockinette stitch using again 14 pegs but now I'm using two acrylic yarns. In that case, you loom knit holding the two yarns as one.

Τί Είναι το Knitting Loom; / What is a Knitting Loom?

Τι μπορούμε να πλέξουμε;

Γιατί να χρησιμοποιούμε τα knittinglooms;;;

Πώς πλέκουμε με το knitting loom;

The knitting loom is a tool with which we can weave and knit without needles or crochet hooks.

There are many kinds of knitting looms: plastic, wooden, handmade, rectangular and round in different sizes, shaped “S” for big projects etc.

What can we knit?
·         scarfs for children or adults,
·         hats,
·         sweaters, jackets, boleros,
·         rugs and decoratives for the house,
·         blankets,
·         pillow covers,
·         toys, dolls and animal toys for children,
·         bags
and anything else you could think of.

Why to use knitting looms?
·         it’s very easy to be learnt by everyone (from children to … older “children”),
·         it’s less tiring for our hands and wrists (usually all, more or less, suffer from wrist pains when knitting with needles),
·         it’s almost unlikely to have a stitch dropped as the knitting “sits” on the loom,
·         both sides of the knitting are right (there isn’t wrong side),
·         the knitting remains flat without curling on the edges. So it’s easier to join two pieces when we knit a sweater or a blanket in a patchwork motif.

How do we knit with knitting loom? Let’s learn it in the tab “Stitches – How?”

Tutorial: Cast On, Bind Off and Stockinette Stitch Using A Long Knitting Loom!

Hello my friends!

How are you?

I think that it's our time for creation, joy and relaxation! I think that it's the time to start Loom Knitting!

Let's start by learning how to cast on and bind off and of course a very easy and beautiful stitch, the stockinette stitch in a long rectangular knitting loom.

* I would advise you for the first time to use the smaller knitting loom, the one with 12 pegs, and a cheap acrylic yarn as it will be more easy to work with, especially at the beginning!

The first step for loom knitting is the Cast on.
Below you can see the steps for casting on one by one.

Now we will learn the Stockinette stitch. It's a very easy stitch with which you can loom knit many many things as scarves, sweaters, bags, pillows and whatever you want!

Below you can see how this stitch looks like using a medium worsted acrylic yarn. When we will bind off, the edgings would not be curly as shown at the photo but straight.

Finally, we have to bind off. Let's see how!

In a few days I will post photos of bind off too.

Please don' t hesitate to ask me whatever you think it's complicated to you!

Welcome!

Hello!
I’m Knitting (b)Loomer and I have the great pleasure to welcome you to my cozy home!

If someone would have asked me 1,5  years ago, what is my relationship with knitting, I would have definitely answered: “Me? Knitting??? Never!!!” And I meant it!

Until one afternoon, as I was walking and  staring storefronts, I came across  a shop with yarn balls, needles and all these unknown (until then)  to me objects. Through the storefront I was strongly flirted by a colorful yarn. It was just perfect! It had all the colors of the rainbow and was making up the mood!

I walked in and I was welcomed by a smiling and lovely lady. I confessed that knitting was an unknown world for me but I wanted to try knitting a scarf with the yarn that was flirting me. "It’s not difficult!" she said. "You will definitely do it!" So I bought 2 skeins of yarn and needles No3!

That's it! Throughout the bus ride to get back home, I was examining what I had just bought. I read and reread the label on the yarn, without understanding much of what it was written on it and what exactly were meant. I felt the texture of the wool in my hands and could not wait to get home to look, to learn, to see how I would begin knitting my first scarf!

Without having cast on the needles, I felt extremely proud that at least I would try to make something on my own!

The magic door of knitting had just opened for me...!
